| Everything I Needed To Know About Life I learned From The Sabbat
Or - 'How The Sabbat Teaches Some Of The Highest Principles Anyone Could Hope To Follow In Their Lives.'
Not exactly what you would expect from a collection of slavering monsters - but is that what the Sabbat truly is? Read on and see.
Be what you are, don't pretend to be something you're not.
(The Sabbat teaches its members that they are vampires, so they should stop trying to pretend they are human and be true to what they are.)
Approach life with fairness and equality for yourself and your fellow man, regardless of background or origin.
(In the Sabbat all vampires are created equal - in theory - and all share in the Vaulderie. All members of the Sect still belong to Packs - regardless of rank or achievement.)
Look out for your friends and watch each other's backs.
(In the Sect, the pack comes first.)
Practice loyalty to friends and goals and you will get ahead.
(Loyalty and dedication to Pack and Sect are the cardinal rules that govern all members of the Sabbat.)
Personal freedom need not be sacrificed while supporting a larger ideal.
(The Sabbat combines a unique juxtaposition of absolute freedom for the individual and the service of a higher purpose represented by advancing and defending the Sect's ideals.)
Do not let the 'powers that be' manipulate your thinking or control your life. Do not follow blindly.
(One of the prime purposes of the Sabbat is to oppose the secret control of Kindred by the Methuselahs and Antediluvians - purportedly the guiding influence behind the Camarilla and other Kindred agencies.)
Don't do anything halfway, go all out in every effort you make in life.
(The Sabbat seems to be a collection of extremes because it advances the notion that reserve and half-measures just aren't the way to do things. If you're going to be a monster - be the worst monster anyone has ever seen.)
If you want to succeed in life, believe in something and give it all you've got.
(The Sabbat is impressive in its righteous zeal and the level of absolute belief that its members carry to the arena of conflict. Zealots can and do often defeat vastly superior forces purely by the strength and motivation of their belief.)
Respect your leaders, but do not be blind sheep following willingly wherever they lead regardless of merit. Support them when they are doing a good job, and replace them when they aren't.
(The Sect advocates respecting your Elders and Superiors, but also allows those same persons to be challenged if they are performing their duties badly. The rite of Monomacy allows any member anywhere to challenge the actions of any other member equally.)
Be conscientious and responsible if you hold a position of authority over others. Do your job well.
(The practice within the sect of allowing anyone to challenge your authority if you're not doing a good job should have the effect of keeping the Sabbat's leaders on their toes and doing the best job they know how - not to mention that if they are going to practice intrigue, they're going to be VERY sneaky about it.)
Don't be afraid to make sacrifices to achieve your goals, but do not sacrifice aimlessly or foolishly.
(Every member of the Sabbat is willing to give their unlife for the Sect, but they do not approach conflict foolishly either. The practice of 'recruiting' - as in mass-embracing - foot-soldiers as an advance guard in every attack is a prime example of this. Few of these foot-soldiers survive, but those that do are rewarded by becoming full members of the pack - having proven themselves capable of contributing.)
Do your fair share and be there to help your fellow people.
(In the Sabbat, everyone fights - no exceptions. If you aren't a functioning and productive member of the pack, you don't survive.)
Face your fears and learn to overcome them.
(The Sabbat routinely tests their courage and hardens its members to common vampiric phobias through Ritae such as the Firedance, wherein the natural Cainite aversion to fire is gradually overcome.)
Communal expressions of faith and unity are what bind people together towards a common goal. Meetings and gatherings simply to reaffirm one's beliefs can be powerful motivation.
(The Sabbat practices a large and complex array of Ritae - holy rites and ceremonies - that form the backbone of their core system of belief. Every pack has a spiritual leader - priest or priestess - that leads the pack in these Ritae and is responsible for the spiritual well-being of the pack.)
Find a balance between church and state - spiritualism and pragmatism - in your life if you want to succeed. Too much indulgence of either one can be your undoing.
(Every Pack in the Sect has two leaders that cooperate in harmony to hold authority over the pack - ductus and priest(ess) - in this way politics and religion are forever in conjunction within the leadership of the packs.)
Make careful plans and think things through - but when the time comes to act, get in there and give it all you've got.
(Every Sabbat action is carefully planned, every siege is carried out with a great deal of forethought, intelligence gathering, and planning. But when the time comes for the attack, the pack a throw everything they've got into the fray, with no looking back. Everyone fights - no exceptions.)
Do not blindly accept the status quo without being informed. Ask questions, challenge established thinking, and do not let policy overcome and replace morality.
(The Sabbat formed because a few of its founders discovered the webs of manipulation that formed the basis of Kindred life before the splitting of the sects. They asked questions that no-one had dared voice before, and discovered truths that no-one was ever meant to know, revealing manipulators that cared for nothing but their own agendas - the Antediluvians and Methuselahs.)
Everyone needs to believe in something, everyone must have a moral code - even if it isn't exactly the same as everyone else's. Personal belief and codes of honor can be a bastion against strife and stress, giving you personal strength and empowerment when all else fails.
(Many of the Sabbat overcome the gradual loss of humanity and the inevitable slide toward the beast by adopting 'Paths of Enlightenment' - strict artificial codes of conduct akin to religious or moral doctrine. These Paths often allow the Sabbat Cainites to last longer under greater stress than any of their Camarilla counterparts could imagine.)
Strength must be tested to be proven - push your limits and explore your reserves, it will serve you greatly.
(From the moment of their creation when they must dig themselves out of the ground, every member of the Sect is constantly testing their inner and outer strength and having it tested. Only the fit survive in the Sabbat, and that fitness is always under watchful evaluation.)
